Agni Dev Chopra is an Indian Cricketer who is the son of renowned Bollywood film director Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Journalist Anupama Chopra. Agni is a left-handed batsman who made his first-class debut on 5 January 2024 playing for Mizoram. In his first match against Sikkim, Agni made an impressive 166 runs in just 179 balls, announcing himself as an exciting new batting talent. Agni Dev Chopra was born on 4 November 1998 in Detroit, Michigan. His father is the acclaimed Bollywood director and writer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, known for films like 12th Fail, Mission Kashmir, Munna Bhai MBBS and more. Agni’s mother is Anupama Chandra Chopra, a journalist by profession.
Career
Agni Dev Chopra was born in America and then shifted to Mumbai where he started his cricketing journey with the junior teams of Mumbai where he honed his batting talents.
However, he later switched allegiances to represent the northeastern state of Mizoram. Agni made his senior debut for Mizoram in a Twenty20 match against Chhattisgarh on 16 October 2023 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring 5 runs.
He continued his steady progress, making his List A debut on 23 November 2023 when Mizoram faced off against Chandigarh in an additional match in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Agni scored an unbeaten 15 runs in that match, helping Mizoram reach 149/6.
His big break came on 5 January 2024 when he made his much-anticipated first-class debut, representing Mizoram in the Ranji Trophy. Facing Sikkim, Agni smashed a superb 166 runs in just 179 balls.
