Arpinder Singh is an Indian triple jumper. He represented India in many prestigious world arenas such as the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. On the eve of National Sports Day 2018, he presented the Indian people with the beautiful gift of a gold medal in the triple jump after 48 years.
Birth & Early Life
Arpinder Singh was born on 30 December 1992 in Harsha Chhina, a village in Amritsar, Punjab, to Jagbir Singh and Harmeet Kaur. His father was in the military and always wanted him to become an athlete, he made his parents proud by making a name for himself in track and field nationally and internationally.
He completed his schooling at a Sports School, Jalandhar. In 2006, Arpinder passed the Jalandhar Sports School exam and achieved a jump of just over 11 meters. Although he was not selected, he refused to give up. He studied hard and the following year he entered the school with a result of 11.85 meters.

Career
Arpinder jumped 13.86m at the U-17 school games and won the silver medal. He then tried his hand at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Ludhiana, where he was selected, but only as a one-day grant. He was unable to get a scholarship and all financial spending was on his mind.
In June 2014, Arpinder broke his previous record of 16.84m with a jump of 17.17m at the 2014 National Inter-State Championships in Lucknow. In doing so, he broke the national record previously held by Ranjit Maheshwari and also secured qualification for his game in the 2014 Commonwealth, where he won a bronze medal. This record was broken again in 2016 by Maheshwari.
On 29 August 2018, he won the gold medal in the triple jump at the 18th Asian Games. He covered 16.77m distance to win the gold medal. He became the second Indian athlete to reach this milestone. He was preceded by Mohinder Singh Gil, who won gold in the triple jump at the 1970 Asian Games in Bangkok.
