Uttara Baokar was a highly acclaimed Indian stage, film and television actress. She made her mark in the industry by starring in several noteworthy plays such as Mena in Mena Gurjari, the mother in playwright Girish Karnad’s Tughlaq, Padmavati in Mukyhamantri, the nautch girl in Chhote and many more. In 1978, Uttara directed Jaywant Dalvi’s play Sandhya Chhaya, an adaptation of the original play in Hindi translation by Kusum Kumar. Uttara Baokar a beloved figure in the Indian community passed away on April 12th, 2023 at the age of 79.
Uttara was best known for her prolific career in Marathi films, appearing in classics such as Doghi (1995), Uttarayan (2005), Restaurant (2006) and Shevri (2006). Birth & Early Life
Uttara is a renowned Indian film and theatre actor who studied at the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi under Ebrahim Alkazi. She graduated in 1968 and went on to become one of the most prolific actresses in both theatre and film.
Death Cause
On 12 April 2023, Uttara passed away at age of 79, the senior actress had been suffering from illness for the last year. On 11 April, she succumbed to her illness in a hospital in Pune.
Awards
In 1984, Uttara was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her outstanding performances in Hindi cinema and television. Subsequently, in 1988, she was recognised with the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Ek Din Achanak.
