Thambi Ramaiah was born on 27 February 1956 in Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu. Ramaiah is the eldest child of the family, he has completed his High Schooling in Tamil Naidu. His father’s name is Jagannathapillai, who was a poet and fiction writer. His mother’s name is Pappammal who passed away at the age of 74 due to sudden illness, her final rites have been performed in his home town Rarapurami.
Ramaiah is married to Shanthy Ramaiah. The couple has two children named Umapathy and Viveka Ramaiah. Umapathy is following in the footsteps of his father and making his way into the entertainment industry. Viveka on the other hand excels at academics and is been married to Rahulji.

Career
At the age of 20, Ramaiah moved to Chennai to get a breakthrough in the film industry, but the lack of contacts in the industry become a hindrance to his acting career, which led him to work for a private company for almost nine years of his life.
Ramaiah has an interest in script writing and wrote lyrics for many songs. He also did training in instruments like guitar and harmonium. In 1994, Ramaiah got his 1st gig as a dialogue writer for a serial that was aired on Sun TV. After that, he got many opportunities as an assistant director, scriptwriter, and lyricist. But his acting career started in 1999 with the movie Malabar Police, and Manu Needhi become his stepping stone toward being a successful director in the year 2000.
