Kya Monée is an American singer and songwriter. She is best known for participating in singing reality show American Idol season 19. In 2023, she returned again in season 21 of reality competition series. She is originally from Austin, Texas.

Biography

Kya Monée was born on August 9th, 2001 and was 19 years old when she auditioned for Season 19 of American Idol. She had the honor of singing a legendary duet with fellow contestant and runner-up of the season, Willie Spence, which was her only performance on the show.

Following the devastating loss of her friend Willie, Monée was determined to give it her all in American Idol for a second time. Viewers can stay tuned to see if she will be granted a golden ticket as she attempts to compete in Season 21 of the show. This will be Monee’s second attempt at the competition since Willie’s passing.

Monée, the hopeful for American Idol Season 21, revealed in an interview with KVUE that her passion for singing started when she was four years old – in church, of all places. She first sang Beyoncé’s hit song ‘Listen’, and since then, has been determined to turn her love of singing into a career.

Kya Monée auditioned in Nashville, where she performed the iconic song ‘I’m Here’ from The Color Purple. All three of the show’s judges voted yes, advancing her to the next round of the competition.
