Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi was the National President of Karni Sena. He led a distinct faction unrelated to the Rajput Karni Sena that orchestrated protests against the Bollywood film ‘Padmaavat.’ Gogamedi had parted ways with Karni Sena, then under Lokendra Singh Kalvi’s leadership, in 2015, establishing his own group.

In a disturbing incident captured on video, Gogamedi was ambushed by assailants who had been sitting with him. Unaware of the impending danger, he was shot at close range at least five times, with the final fatal bullet directed at his head.

The CCTV footage depicts the leader of the fringe outfit engrossed in his phone, moments before the attackers, seated across from him, abruptly stood up and opened fire. One of his guards attempted to intervene but was met with gunfire as well.

The incident occurred around 12:30 pm on December 5, 2023. Gogamedi and two of his associates sustained injuries and were promptly transported to a hospital. Unfortunately, the prominent Rajput leader succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead.

The video does not show one of the assailants, who was killed in the ensuing exchange of gunfire. The remaining two perpetrators fled the scene on a motorcycle belonging to two individuals they had threatened with their pistols, as reported by the police.

Sukhdev has run for elections before from the Gogamedi Bhadra assembly seat as a Bahujan Samaj Party candidate. In the last assembly elections, he was with the BJP, but this time, he was aligned with Dharmendra Rathore, who is close to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Notably, he gained attention for the first time when he escaped a court hearing in Hanumangarh district by jumping over the dock. People used to call him Sukhiya. In an undercover operation by Aaj Tak, he was caught asking for money in exchange for allowing the release of the film Padmavati.
