Savion Jabriel Wright, better known as Noivas is an American singer and songwriter. He is best known for participating in NBC’s television singing reality show The Voice Season 23. He also appeared on American Idol Season 13 in 2014 and American Idol Season 14 in 2015.
Birth & Early Life
Noivas Wright was born on March 12, 1992 in Galveston, Texas to Rosalind and Douglas Wright, Sr. ((Instgram)) His real name is Savion Jabriel Wright.
From an early age of six, Noivas found himself taking bass guitar lessons from his oldest brother.
His musical talents were further developed when he began singing solos in his father’s church back in his hometown of Jasper at the age of 12. However, his passion for instrumentation was so great that he gave up singing for a time, until at the age of 14 he sang Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” for his father – an experience that reignited his love of vocalisation.
He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Arts at Baylor University and graduated in 2015.
In 2020, he pursued his Master’s degree in Management Information Systems at Lamar University.
Family
Noivas’ father was raised in Jim Crow Mississippi (Hickory, MS) and was the first Black boy to go to an all-white school in 1965. He endured legalized violence and bullying BUT he made it out alive. Noivas chose him as family representatives at blind audition of the voice. He said that,
“I wouldn’t be here without him and his sayings that have made me the man I am today. So he will be one of the people I will be honoring with my performance. I cannot wait until y’all get to hear his incredible story.”
He is the youngest of 5 children raised on a ranch in Jasper, Texas. He has an elder sister named Kassilia J. Wright.
Wife
Noivas is married to Elissa Henry. The couple also blessed with two daughters, Bella and Ira, in 2021 and 2022.
Career
Noivas competed twice on FOX’s American Idol – making it to the Top 48 in 2014, and the Top 24 in 2015.
In 2015, the artist released an EP titled “Breathing Underwater”, honouring his brother Alfred Wright. It peaked at #40 on iTunes’ Top 100 chart.
Following his final Idol elimination, Noivas undertook a tour of the US, performing over 180 shows from California, to Florida, and as far as upstate New York.
In 2017, after wrapping up a brief tour, he wanted to have some time off due to weariness and fatigue. Thus, he decided to follow in his parents’ footsteps and become an educator; he secured positions at Texas public schools and a junior college in the same state.
In 2023, Noivas came into limelight after performing on the stage of The Voice 23 as a contestant. He got four chair turn for his performance on Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” during The Voice Blind Auditions. The show is coached by Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Chance the Rapper and Niall Horan.
