Career
Pilgaonkar began his career as a young artist. He was to appear in Madhavrao Shinde’s Soonbai in 1961, the plans did not materialize. He was selected for the film by Marathi Ha Maza Marg Ekla at the age of 4. As a young actor, he performed in the Dharmendra Meena Kumari with Majhli Didi. He has appeared in notable films like Jewel Thief, Chanda Aur Bijali, Brahmachari, and Mela. He moved into principal roles for a short period with Geet Gaata Chal from Rajshri Productions, for which he projected in front of Sarika. The couple worked for Balika Badhu in 1976, College Girl and Nadiya Ke Paar.
After the movie Trishul, he turned to support roles and made super hit films like Sholay, Avtaar, Sur Sangam, and Satte Pe Satta. In 1992, he directed Prem Deewane by Subhash Ghai, Aisi Bhi Kya Jaldi Hai in 1996. In 2011, he directed and performed Jaana Pehchani. He featured in Katyar Kaljat Ghusli in 2015.
Sachin, with Lakshikant Berde, Ashok Saraf, and, Mahesh Kothari formed a successful quartet, with several successful films in the Marathi movies in the 1980s and 1990s. He turned his attention to Indian television in the 1990s, he directed the Hindi comedy Tu Tu Main Main on Star Plus. Sachin directed a show Rin 123 on the channel DD Metro. In 2006, with his wife, Supriya, he won the reality show Nach Baliye. He has anchored Hindi musical performances like Chalti ka Naam Antakshari and various other events and awards ceremonies of the film Marath. In 2007 he began a new show on Zee Marathi, known as Eka Peksha Ek, based on dance, finding hidden skills in all regions of Maharashtra. He emerged as a judge on the talent show of reality comedy Chhote Miyan in 2009 on TV colors.
Pilgaonkar has been directing Marathi movies from the 1980s. He began directing with the film Mai Baap in 1982. Other movies like Gamma Jammat and Maza Pati Karodpati.
