Dinesh Phadnis was born on 2 November 1996 in Bihar, India. He has done his schooling at Chogle High School, Sri Krishna Nagar, Borivali East, Mumbai. After completing his schooling, Dinesh pursued his graduation degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1980.

Television

Dinesh Phadnis began his acting career on television in 1993, portraying a police inspector in the Hindi series Fasale. This marked his first significant television role. His big break came in 1998 when he started a two-decade-long run playing Inspector Fredericks on the hit Sony TV serial CID. Dinesh remained a core cast member of the police procedural until 2018, while also co-writing several episodes alongside acclaimed director Sriram Raghavan.

While starring in CID, Dinesh continued expanding his television resume with guest appearances on other Sony series like the horror anthology Aahat in 2006 and the courtroom drama Adaalat in 2012. In 2014, he was featured in the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah which is aired on SAB TV. After departing CID, Dinesh took on a new regular role in 2019 as Constable Shambhu Tawde on the police series CIF airing on Dangal TV.

Dinesh Phadnis began his career while first appearing in the Marathi film Bharla Ha Malavat Raktan in 1993. After that, he got the lead role in Aamir Khan’s film Sarfarosh where he played the role of SI Crime Branch in 1999. Later, Dinesh gave his cameo appearance in Dharmesh Darshan’s film Mela where he featured in the song Mela Dilon Ka. Dinesh has also worked with Hrithik Roshan in Super 30 film.

Death Cause

On 4 December 2023, actor Dinesh Phadnis passed away at Tunga Hospital in Mumbai. Sources revealed that Phadnis had been battling liver damage before his death. Earlier reports had stated Phadnis suffered a heart attack, however, his CID co-star Dayanand Shetty dismissed those rumours.

The cause of death was confirmed to be complications from liver damage, ending Phadnis’ fight against the condition at Tunga Hospital where he had been admitted for treatment.
