Tillotama Shome was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. Since her father was an Indian Air Force officer, she had to migrate across the India. She has a younger brother Gaurav Shome in the family. Shome completed her studies at Lady Shri Ram College. She then relocated to New York in 2004 to pursue a master’s degree in educational theatre at New York University, where she remained until she came back to Mumbai in February 2008.

Career
Shome made her film debut in 2001 with director Mira Nair’s love film Monsoon Wedding, in which she played Alice. The film also featured Naseeruddin Shah and Lillete Dubey.
In 2009, Shome starred as a nun in Claire McCarthy’s Australian film The Waiting City. She played a social worker in Italo Spinelli’s social awareness film Gangor, which was based on Mahashweta Devi’s novel. In 2012, Shome appeared as Queen in Qaushiq Mukherjee’s Bengali film Tasher Desh. She subsequently appeared in several films including Shadows of Time, Turning 30, Shanghai, Budhia Singh – Born to Run etc.
