On March 5th, 2023, American Idol premiered on ABC Network and HULU with 55 singing competitors taking the stage. Among them was Tanner Charles, an aspiring singer who had recently quit college to persue his passion for music.
Despite not having any official training or experience, he was ready to showcase his raw talent on the biggest stage he’d ever been on, alongside his girlfriend.
Who is Tanner Charles?
Tanner Charles Luetjen is just 20 years old and from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He has completed his primary education at Mingo Valley Christian School, followed by a year of college each at Tulsa Community College and Oral Roberts University.
Career
Charles earned a ticket to Hollywood after singing to his girlfriend on American Idol 21. His talent was noticed by one of the show’s casting producers who found his singing videos on Instagram. He was then asked to audition and, due to the pandemic, was able to skip rounds of virtual auditions and have meetings with the executive producer over Zoom.
After receiving a “Yes” from them, he had the chance to appear on the original stage in Nashville in front of real celebrities. Previously, he had sung songs at churches in Broken Arrow, referring to himself as a “Battle Creek Church worship leader from Broken Arrow”.
Girlfriend
Delaney Blaylock and Tanner Charles Luetjen are currently in a relationship and recently made a television appearance, hand-in-hand, while auditioning for American Idol.
About American Idol 21
American Idol is back and better than ever for its twenty-first season! This sixth season since the show’s revival is hosted by Ryan Seacrest, with judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie. The audition process has changed drastically due to Covid-19; this season has seen the introduction of the remote auditions that took place from August 3 to September 14, 2022.
In addition, the show brought back the “Platinum Ticket,” which gives three lucky contestants the chance to advance directly to Hollywood Week and pick their duet partners.
