Wé Ani, formerly known as Wé McDonald is an American singer, songwriter and musician. She is best known for participating in singing reality shows like The Voice 11 and American Idol 21. She finished as the second runner-up of The Voice 11 , receiving less votes than Billy Gilman and winner Sundance Head.
Who is Wé Ani?
At the age of four, Ani began singing and playing the piano, followed by taking up acting at six years old. Subsequently, she enrolled into the Harlem School of the Arts when she was 12. She became the youngest artist to win in the adult division of Apollo’s Amateur Night and appeared twice in first place and twice in second place. Moreover, her album ‘Feeling Good’ charted in the Top 100 of iTunes Pop Chart upon its release.
Ani released four more singles after changing her stage name in July 2022. Before her appearance on ‘The Voice,’ she had previously played at Carnegie Hall and been chosen to perform at the Harlem School of the Arts’ 50th anniversary.
The Voice Journey
Ani ended The Voice season 11 in third place. She made her mark with an amazing four-chair audition of “Feeling Good” and her talent caught the eye of Team Alicia Keys. Throughout the season, she wowed the audiences, but ultimately lost to runner-up Billy Gilman and winner Sundance Head.
She co-wrote the song ‘Head Up High’ with fellow participant Kylie Rothfield during the competition. Additionally, she wrote a children’s book called ‘The Little Girl with a Big Voice’ to promote an anti-bullying campaign. This book tells the story of a young girl who was bullied at school but eventually found acceptance from an audience when she performed on stage.

Ani performed Demi Lovato’s “Anyone” during the audition of American Idol and it was so impressive that the judges gave them a ticket to Hollywood.

We Ani is hailing from Harlem, New York and was raised in Paterson, New Jersey. She has a brother and four sisters. Her social media accounts are managed by her sibling Imani T McDonald and Jasmine has been featured in talent shows with her.
